This project was an experiment to combine my graphic design and computer skills with my fine art work.

The first challenge was to design a series of characters in Adobe Illustrator based primarily on circles. Simplification was the primary goal while still giving the character a personality and emotional expression.

These designs were then prepared for output on a Glowforge, a laser engraver/cutter. Color separation plates were made for the traditional relief printmaking process.

Next, I hand engraved a zinc plate, creating scroll work and contour lines to contrast the strong geometric style of the relief print.
